In Book 1, Me, Myself and I, we discuss the distinctions between our true self, ego and false ego.
At all times we are making a free will choice through our human ego whether to follow our true self or our false ego (see Book 1 for more details). When the false ego comes into play it can cause misguidance and actions that may lead to hurting those around us, especially those we love. If we are exceedingly governed by our false ego, then a heartfelt apology with contrition becomes quite difficult and mostly avoided, even though the “awareness” of having hurt others is present. This is because the false ego perceives this as weakness and powerlessness. However, this is not true, as being vulnerable is in fact a sign of courage, strength, and emotional maturity…attributes that reside with the true self.
Therefore, someone behaving from false ego will skip the apology and difficult conversation or quite possibly give “lip service” if pressed, and instead practice avoidance. Their goal will be to re-connect when you’re “over it” so they can pick up where you left off as if nothing happened thus letting them off the hook. This is in essence bypassing and the challenge comes when we realize that Life will keep us on the hook, continuing to bring us similar situations until we recognize that we must make a shift. Uncomfortable as it might seem, this is the process of growth and evolution.
How long this will take always depends on how willing we are to do the inner work. It’s always our choice.
