In language, we use “turn of phrases” that become habit. Phrases that we have been conditioned with from childhood, from society, from culture, and we use them over and over on autopilot until they are embedded within us, completely believed, taken as truth. These phrases are used to imply and connote specific emotions or messages. But are you aware of what and how you are using them and if they express what you truly mean?
One of these phrases “stepping into my power” is being used quite liberally today, however, it is used when someone wants to indicate that they are in fact feeling “empowered”. There is a distinction that must be noted between “my power” and “being empowered”. It is essential to clear distortion so that when one uses the phrase, they understand the action behind it.
Being “empowered” predicates that you have done your inner work of healing your emotional wounds, releasing them, and integrating your shadows into the light. For when you lift yourself out of your traumas and abuse, insecurities, and toxic behaviors and habits, this is when you will feel empowered. Empowerment is an inside job. “Stepping into your power” is an indication that means your power exists outside of you and is something that you must step into without doing any of the inner work. It is in effect a bypassing and a claim that is made based on an external identity. You cannot claim an identity that is not yours and you have not procured from within. To “be empowered” requires humility and to walk the path of your own humbleness, to look at your shortcomings, pains and hurts and to know that you yourself possess the ability to heal them. This is what it means to “be empowered” therefore the teaching is to focus on empowering yourself through healing, release, and integration, all else is bypassing and will not serve you well, for there is no power outside of you.
